Evans Introductory Comments An old proverb says: “A text without its context is a pretext.” In other words, it is very possible to insert our own thoughts or prejudices about a biblical passage if we don’t first see what the Bible writer is saying. Such a simple concept, yet its implications are significant. A familiar Bible passage illustrates this point quite well.
